Planetary Industry Guide

2019.10.22

Welcome!

This is a beginner's guide intended for new players to understand and get started with Planetary Production. At the end of this tutorial, you will understand the basic mechanics and have created P0 -> P2 products to sell, with some specifics on how to do so within Horde space.

If you prefer, this guide is available in a follow along video format:

What is Planetary Industry?

Referred to as PI or PP (Planetary Production), Planetary Industry allows you to run a facility on the surface a planet with a Player Owned Customs Office (or POCO) installed. The planets can be set up to extract resources (P0) from the planet and process them into P1, to solely take P1 materials and process them into P2, or both in combination. There are specific setups for each purpose, so this tutorial will cover a basic example of each, resulting in a Refined (P2) level product at the end.

"TL;DR it's Farmville."

Once you're set up, you click a bit, come back in a few days when it's done, move your goods, and reset it.

What do I need to get started?

You will need the following skills:

  • Gallente Industrial: to pilot an Epithal, the #1 ship for transferring planetary commodities.
  • Command Center Upgrades: Powergrid and CPU for your planet's facility.
  • Interplanetary Consolidation: +1 planet available, up to max of 6.
  • Remote Sensing: The ability to look at planets from X lightyears away, up to 9 LY.
  • Planetology and Advanced Planetology: Improving the quality of scan data on each planet, allowing you to better find resources.
  • To quickly put together a skillplan, consider the following skills:

  • Gallente Industrial I
  • Command Center Upgrades I
  • Interplanetary Consolidation I
  • Remote Sensing I
  • Remote Sensing II
  • Remote Sensing III
  • Planetology I
  • Planetology II
  • Gallente Industrial II
  • Gallente Industrial III
  • Interplanetary Consolidation II
  • Interplanetary Consolidation III
  • Planetology III
  • Command Center Upgrades II
  • Command Center Upgrades III
  • Command Center Upgrades IV
  • Interplanetary Consolidation IV
  • Planetology IV
  • Advanced Planetology I
  • Advanced Planetology II
  • Advanced Planetology III
  • Advanced Planetology IV
  • You will need the following items:

  • Epithal
  • A command center for your planet of choice (e.g. "Oceanic Command Center")
  • Another ship with at least 1,000m3 of cargo (such as a Nereus)
  • Several million ISK for the planet building fees

  • Explain the resources to me...

There are 8 different kinds of planets, each with their own set of 5 resources (P0). They are referred to as P0, and once they are processed, they are P1. Some are unique to one type of planet.

To see a detailed, interactive chart of which resources come from which of these planets, use this website: https://hanns.io/pi/ It's magic.

    So... how do I start?

    Here's the game plan, sport:

This is not the most O P T I M A L setup, but it'll sure teach you all the mechanics and start making you some money. We're gonna set up two P1 extraction planets and one P2 factory planet.

Look at the Alysii PI chart again, and pick any item in the P2 column, which will highlight the P1s you need to create, and the potential planets you can use. In my example, I will be creating Microfiber Shielding, but I highly recommend you pick something else.

E.g. A two extractor, five basic industry facility, extraction planet setup. Extractors -> storage -> facilities -> launchpad.
